Zeke’s Lunchbox is a pseudonym for Melbourne based artist, Julia Rich.
A bowerbird of pop culture, artist and designer Zeke’s Lunchbox creates a glittering assemblage of excess, overwhelming yet carefully balanced in composition, content and colour. Zeke is influenced by kitsch art, space age, and everything B-grade – drawing inspiration from schlock artists and 90’s cult classics like Goosebumps and The Garbage Pail Kids.
She describes her work as post-surreal pop with a heavy influence in retro sci-fi. “I like to think of the work as a melange of all my experiences with the goal of escapism in mind.”
Zeke’s lunchbox is primarily a painter, illustrator and street artist. She has exhibited internationally at group shows, including Booty Worship in the US and Soft Matter in the UK. Some local highlights include her installation with fellow artist Terhor which includes art festivals; Art, Not Apart & Critical Animals.
Her youtube channel has allowed her to become a full time artist. Unlike other artists and designers who can be secretive about their work and process, Zeke saw youtube as an untapped resource for artists - an opportunity to connect but also nurture and inspire other artists. She currently has over 9,000 subscribers to her channel.
Zeke’s Lunchbox has also collaborated with brands, makers and councils both locally and abroad. Some highlights include being selected to paint a mural on the iconic Bondi Wall, a commissioned painting for brand agency Wild Minded, a collaboration with nail art company, Personail, a textile print for DGTL LUXE, merchandise for Rollerfit and being an Avant Card postcard feature artist.
Currently, Zeke’s Lunchbox is working on murals across Australia, her YouTube art channel and a Tarot Card deck which will come out later in 2019.
